Commitment to learning

Commitment to Learning (C2L) is a simple way to measure how engaged and responsible a student is in their learning, both in lessons and independently.

It uses three grades:

  • 3 – Always: The student is consistently prepared, participates actively, practises skills, completes work to a high standard, responds to feedback, and shows positive learning behaviours.
  • 2 – Sometimes: The student shows these behaviours inconsistently—they may need reminders, give up when work is difficult, or not always act on feedback or complete work to their best.
  • 1 – Do Not Yet: The student is not yet demonstrating these behaviours—they are often unprepared, do not complete work, avoid participation, and do not respond to feedback.

It also includes Independent Learning, where:

  • A 3 means work is always completed on time and to a high standard,
  • A 2 means it is sometimes incomplete or below best effort,
  • A 1 means it is not yet completed.

In short: C2L reflects a student’s attitude, effort, and engagement with their learning—not just their academic ability.
